China Automotive Systems (CAAS) has announced new electric power steering deals with EV maker BYD Auto.

After “18 months of preparation and close collaboration between both R&D teams”, CAAS said, it won BYD design contracts for C-EPS, DP-EPS and R-EPS for all model series.

“Being the first DP-EPS supplier to BYD, CAAS engineers used computer-aided design and artificial intelligence to shorten the design cycle to five months, and successfully completed the integration of DP-EPS for the BYD Tang,” the supplier said.

It added DP-EPS was now replacing higher cost R-EPS on BYD models due to superior NVH reduction and driver experience, especially for the high end Tang and Han models.

DP-EPS full production has begun with annual volume of 300,000 units while “wide adoption” of DP-EPS, R-EPS and C-EPS was “expected for all Dynasty series models (Tang, Han, Song pro, and Song Plus), the Marine Life series (Dolphin and Seal), the Classic Ship series (Frigate) and the Denza.
