Toyota Motor reportedly is to recall more than 540,000 vehicles involving 12 models, including the Prius hybrid and Vitz (Yaris) compact, to replace defective brake light switches.

The brake lights in the vehicles, manufactured and sold worldwide between January 1999 and August this year, could fail because of the faulty switches, Toyota told Reuters, while a spokesman declined to comment on the expected cost of the recall.


The 12 models include the Corolla Fielder, the Raum, the Estima (Previa) Hybrid and the Harrier SUV, the report added.
