Chiefs at Toyota and General Motors have agreed to strengthen their partnership in development of technologies for environmentally friendly vehicles, the Associated Press (AP) reported, citing stories in major Japanese newspapers.
According to AP, national newspaper Yomiuri said Toyota President Fujio Cho and visiting GM chief executive Richard Wagoner agreed in a Saturday meeting to step up cooperation in areas such as fuel cell-powered vehicles.
Leading business newspaper Nihon Keizai reportedly quoted Cho as saying that the two sides did not make any concrete agreements, but “we plan to strengthen our partnership with GM” in fuel cell technology.
Citing Kyodo News, AP said Wagoner also met with Toyota honorary chairman Shoichiro Toyoda to discuss a fuel cell technology tie-up.
