Automaker Rivian has said it is pausing construction of its Georgia plant, multiple news agencies report.
It comes as the firm looks to cut costs to launch of the R2.
In a filing, reported by Bloomberg, Rivian said the move will save over $2 billion in capital expenditure.
Deliveries of the R2 model will begin in H1 2026, earlier than expected. Planned production will be moved to an existing factory in Illinois.
Earlier this week, CEO RJ Scaringe unveiled the R2, a mid-sized electric SUV, with prices starting around $45,000.
It is approximately $30,000 less than the automaker’s existing SUV.
