SWITCH Mobility, a subsidiary of Ashok Leyland and part of the Hinduja group, has launched two new electric buses, EiV12 and E1, to ‘redefine urban mobility in India, Europe, and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)’.

The EiV12, claimed to be India’s first low-floor electric city bus with chassis-mounted batteries, has a scalable battery capacity of more than 400+ kWh.

The launch event was attended by Nitin Gadkari, Indian Minister of Road Transport and Highways alongside Ashok P. Hinduja, chairman of Hinduja Group Companies (India), and other industry leaders.

With a capacity to seat up to 39 passengers, the EiV12 platform, designed and manufactured in India, claims to offer global standards in urban commute performance, safety, reliability, and comfort.

It is claimed to offer maximum revenue potential for operators.

The SWITCH EiV12 offers low-floor entry with a kneeling mechanism for easy access, an automated wheelchair ramp, and spaces for differently-abled passengers, while five CCTV cameras and dedicated five women seating address safety concerns.

During the launch occasion, the SWITCH E1, designed for the European market, was virtually flagged off. Both buses share similar design philosophies and EV architecture.

The SWITCH E1, designed for the European market, features advanced engineering with a lightweight monocoque construction for optimal efficiency. It includes in-wheel motors, a flat gangway layout, and a triple-door configuration for easy passenger access.

With a capacity for up to 93 passengers including standees, the SWITCH E1 is claimed to set a new standard in sustainable, passenger-focused urban transportation.

SWITCH Mobility chief executive officer Mahesh Babu said:” At SWITCH Mobility, we’re excited to unveil two new products for India and Europe, both built on our Global EV architecture. These innovations harness cutting-edge EV technology to deliver superior efficiency, safety, and passenger comfort.
