German truck demand remained flat in August, but it is still at a high level with 19,820 new heavy vehicles registered, according to the VDA. This was one percent up on a month earlier.

Exports were up three percent to 19,600 vehicles, with production up two percent to 28,500.
Domestic demand for trucks under six tonnes rose one percent to 13,380 units, while registrations of trucks over six tonnes fell by one percent to 6,030 units. Demand in the first eight months of the year is now up 11% on a year ago.
The VDA attributes the strong market to a strong economy and a construction sector boom, which is encouraging transport companies to expand their fleets. But the sector has also benefited from the introduction of digital tachographs in July.
Bus demand is also buoyant. Domestic registrations were up 18% in August to 410 vehicles. Exports were up 21% to 620 units and production up 25% to 760 units.
