BorgWarner‘s majority-owned subsidiary, SeohanWarner Turbo Systems, has opened a 52,000sq ft (4,800m3) facility on the supplier’s engine group campus in Pyongtaek, South Korea.

The facility includes office, production and warehousing space for a workforce expected to reach 130 within five years. The facility also will house the first on-site engine and testing cells for a turbocharger supplier in Korea. These will be commissioned later this year and fully operational early next year.


“Our strong strategic partnership with Hyundai-Kia Motor Company and expertise in turbo technology has driven our considerable growth since establishing a presence in Korea in 2004,” said Roger Wood, president and general manager of BW’s turbo and emissions systems.


The supplier expects its new facility will produce about 2m turbochargers for customers worldwide in the next five years.


BorgWarner launched the first electronically actuated variable turbine geometry (VTG) turbocharger in Korea for Hyundai’s three-litre V6 diesel engine, which powers the Veracruz luxury utility vehicle (LUV).
