Buick in China has started taking orders for its redesigned GL8 minivan with deliveries starting in January. The original GL8, similar to US models like the Pontiac Montana, was launched in 1999 and over 330,000 have been sold across the country.
“The new GL8 was developed by Shanghai GM in cooperation with the Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center (PATAC) in Shanghai with the specific needs of our customers in mind. It offers everything that consumers have come to expect from Buick, including a dynamic, smooth, quiet and comfortable ride. Like its predecessor, the new GL8 is the right product at the right time,” said Terry Johnsson, Shanghai GM sales, service and marketing chief.
The redesign is based on the Buick Business hybrid concept car, shown at last year’s Shanghai motor show, which was developed in China by PATAC.
The new GL8 offers a choice between a three-litre V6 SIDI intelligent direct injection engine and a 2.4-litre I4Ecotec engine with segment-leading fuel efficiency. A six-speed automatic transmission is standard, providing unrivaled power in the luxury MPV segment.
The new GL8 retails for between CNY288,000 and CNY388,000 (US$43,190 to $58,192).
