Opel is reducing its car prices in response to slow car demand.

Sales chief Thomas Owsianski told a German website that driving must remain affordable even in difficult financial times.

High volume model prices will fall by around 8%. The price of the sevent-seat Zafira multi-purpose vehicle (minivan), for example, would fall from EUR21,780 to EUR 19,990. Special models celebrating the 110th birthday of the company will be offered at lower prices.

In contrast Daimler, BMW and Volkswagen are all increasing prices. Daimler boosted Mercedes-Benz prices by 1.9% at the beginning of the year while Volkswagen stickers rose by about 1% for some models in November.
