Suzuki’s Hungarian unit, Magyar Suzuki Corporation built its two millionth car – a Swift – on 14 July 2011.
Production began with one- and 1.3-litre Swift models in October 1992, and the plant has also made the Wagon R+, Ignis, SX4, and Splash as well as a badge-engineered Swift for Subaru to sell in Europe as the Justy.
Suzuki had started negotiating to build the plant before the Berlin Wall came down in November 1989 and jointly founded Magyar Suzuki in 1991. The plant is now the automaker’s production hub in Europe supplying around 45 countries.
