New vehicle sales in the Philippines fell 9.7% to 12,304 units in April, from 13,631 units a year ago, according to data released jointly by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc (CAMPI) and Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA).

CAMPI attributed the decline to low inventories of some models and a shorter working month in April.

Cumulative sales for the four month period were down by 6.4% at 44,912 units, from 47,963 units a year ago.

Passenger car sales in the January-April period fell by 17.6 % to 13,342 units, from 16,201 units a year earlier, while sales of commercial vehicles were down just slightly, by 0.6% at 31,570 units.
