The Changan Suzuki joint venture has launched series production of the S-Cross, which in China will complement rather than replace the smaller SX4.
The new model, which is being built at the JV’s Yudong plant in Chongqing, is powered by a 120hp 1.6-litre petrol engine. A five-speed manual transmission is standard, with a CVT optional.
Changan Suzuki’s localised model entered production in November, which is only a few months after the vehicle began to be manufactured in Hungary, the first build location.
Maruti Suzuki is due to launch its own S-Cross in India from early 2014. As well as a locally built 1,248cc diesel engine, a 1.6-litre Fiat diesel is expected to be imported from Europe.
