Audi may add extra shifts at its German plants in a bid to meet booming demand and ahead of ambitious new sales targets.

The German automaker is looking to increase already record production up 23% last year to nearly 1.15m to 1.2m vehicles globally, but may mull increasing factory time to do so.

“There may be a chance to go ahead with extra Saturday shifts, but we have to decide when we could do this,” an Audi spokesman in Germany told just-auto.

“It is an ongoing discussion – we have to discuss for the next few weeks and months how we can handle this to increase production – at the moment it makes no sense to go into detail.”

Conceding the extra demand was “good news, fine news,” the Audi spokesman added the company was committed to fulfilling the new target.

He also highlighted the Q3 in Spain with plans to enlarge the plant there, although emphasised the “main target” was to fulfil its goals in Germany.
