New vehicle sales in Malaysia rose by 1.4% to 59,062 units in November, from 55,314 units in the same month of last year, according to data compiled by the Malaysian Automotive Association.

Passenger vehicle sales rose by 1.7% to 49,438 units last month, reflecting intense marketing and promotional campaigns ahead of anticipated price hikes next month following this year's sharp drop in the value of the ringgit. 

Commercial vehicle sales were up by just 0.8% at 6,744 units. 

Total vehicle sales in the first 11 months of the year were 0.8% lower at 597,273 units, compared with 601,827 units a year earlier. Of these, 530,166 units were passenger vehicles and 67,107 were commercial vehicles.
