The Romanian News Digest (RND) reports that vehicle imports to Romania surged by 41% over year-ago levels to 15,151 units in the first half of 2002. The figures were released by the Romanian Association of Automobile Producers and Importers (APIA).
According to the RND report, Renault led the import sector in the first half with over 4,130 new vehicle imports (3,795 units were passenger cars). Renault’s Clio Symbol and Megane models were the make’s top sellers.
Czech-made Skoda cars ranked second in terms of sales, with 2,087 cars sold in the country during the period. Skoda’s Octavia and Fabia were the most sold models.
RND added that Volkswagen sold 1,922 cars, Peugeot 1,340 cars, Ford 705 cars, Opel 614 cars, Fiat 523 cars, Citroen 455 cars, Lada 455 cars and Nissan 399 cars.
