As an electric car nut, I’d been itching for a go at Nissan’s redesigned 2018 Leaf. The UK unit couldn’t fit us in to the pre-launch European media event in January so I had to wait for this week’s UK launch in Scotland. It was worth it. The car has been thoroughly reworked, with much more mainstream styling and an upgraded interior and it also goes faster and further. There’s some great new technology and it introduces e-Pedal which means you’ll hardly ever use a brake pedal again in one of these.
Our frequent analysis articles continued to draw more eyeballs this week. We put Volvo’s V90 interior design and technology under the microscope and considered future models from Hyundai’s premium brand Genesis.
Meanwhile, VW claimed diesel efficiency for a new petrol engine and a fatal accident involving an Under autonomous vehicle test prompted temporary suspensions of a number of such programmes while investigations continue.
We attended BMW’s AGM in Munich and had the chance to interview the automaker’s head of production and we also took a look at the future of GM’s struggling Korea unit.
We continued to keep an eye on the ongoing battle for GKN’s automotive operation and reported news of VW’s new Asian EV battery contracts and Faurecia’s acquisition of an energy recovery company.
Brexit negotiations have made some progress but there was a call this week for more ‘urgent action’.

Have a great weekend.
