Mahindra-owned SsangYong says it has put its business back on track in the last four years and much of the credit for that can go, according to the company, to its outgoing CEO and President Choi Johng-sik who leaves the company at the end of the month.
Choi joined SsangYong in 2010, rising to CEO in 2015.
SsangYong says the company has strengthened its ties with parent company Mahindra & Mahindra for synergies in research and development and overseas business expansion.
Under Choi’s stewardship, SsangYong unveiled the highly successful Tivoli compact SUV which revived the company’s fortunes and changed perceptions of the brand – inside Korea and in overseas markets.
The statement from SsangYong also praised Chos for improving fractious labour relations at the company, which was in receivership in 2009.
