Rolf Eckrodt has now formally assumed his new role as President and CEO responsible for the entire operations of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation. Former President and CEO Takashi Sonobe becomes Chairman.

Regarding his election as President and CEO, Rolf Eckrodt said, “I am fully prepared to accept this responsibility. I will fight for the success and future of the entire company with all my strength and experience gained in the automobile industry over 36 years.”

Eckrodt stressed, “the first year of the Mitsubishi Motors Turnaround has been more successful than expected. We will continue this path and even accelerate our efforts of restructuring and reform to further increase profits and to return to sustainable growth.”

“It is not a question of Japanese or German management style but rather of being successful or not,” he further added. “Building on the great resources available at Mitsubishi Motors, we will further introduce international management methods to recreate a strong Japanese company and partner within our global alliance with DaimlerChrysler.”

DaimlerChrysler holds a 37 percent controlling stake in Mitsubishi and now has its own man in charge. Eckrodt’s mission since his arrival at MMC has been to turn around the loss-making car and truck maker, whose brand image has suffered badly from a string of recalls and associated management cover-ups.
