New vehicle sales in Vietnam jumped by over 62% to 9,607 units in February, from 5,915 units in the same month of last year, according to data released by the Vietnam Automotive Manufacturers Association.
Cumulative sales in the first two months of the year increased by 72% 25,633 units, from 14,861 units a year earlier, reflecting a significant acceleration in economic growth in the last few months – driven by rising domestic consumption, exports and investment.
Cumulative sales of passenger cars, SUVs and MPVs combined increased by 68% to 16,003 units, from 9,521 units in the same period of last year. Commercial vehicle sales rose by 80% to 9,630 units in the same period, from 5,340 units previously.
Toyota was the leading brand in the two-month period, with sales rising by 51% to 7,130 units. Truong Hai (Thaco), which has a number of brands in its portfolio, including Kia, Mazda, Peugeot and some less known commercial vehicles, reported a 121% increase in sales to 8,712 units.
Ford’s sales were up by 53% at 2,448 units and Honda’s sales rose by 15% to 1,367 units.
