The top five companies accounted for 18% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that General Motors filed the most 3D printing patents within the automotive industry in Q3 2024. The company filed 14 3D printing-related patents in the quarter, compared with 13 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Ferrari with 6 3D printing patent filings, Toyota Motor (5 filings), and Porsche Automobil Holding (5 filings) in Q3 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 46% share of total patent filings
The largest share of 3D printing related patent filings in the automotive industry in Q3 2024 was in the US with 46%, followed by China (12%) and Germany (8%). The share represented by the US was 19% higher than the 27% share it accounted for in Q2 2024.
