Sales and Related Occupations drive auto industry hiring activity
Sales and Related Occupations, with a share of 21% new job postings, was the occupation with the greatest hiring activity in the North American auto industry in Q2 2024 , ahead of Transportation and Material Moving Occupations with an 11% share of new job postings.
The other prominent roles included Installation, Maintenance, and Repair Occupations with an 8% share in Q2 2024, Management Occupations with a 6% share and Office and Administrative Support Occupations with a 6% share of new job postings.
Top five companies accounted for 42% of hiring activity
The top five companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined 42% of the overall hiring activity in the North American auto industry in Q2 2024.
O'Reilly Automotive posted 12,477 jobs in Q2 2024 and registered a growth of 19% over the previous quarter, followed by Advance Auto Parts with 10,474 jobs and an 11% growth. Penske, with 4,529 jobs, and Caliber Collision Centers, with 4,426 jobs, recorded a 51% rise and an 8% rise, respectively, while Genuine Parts recorded a 14% decline with a 3,846 new job postings during Q2 2024.
Regional analysis of hiring in the North American auto industry, Q2 2024
The US held the leading share of the North American auto hiring activity with a 92.10% share, a 2% decrease over Q1 2024. Mexico was next with 5.06%, four-percentage-point up over the previous quarter.
