AGC Automotive Europe has introduced its darkest grey glass to date, intended primarily for car roofs and rear windows.
The supplier said the new glass offers greater privacy and thermal comfort (solar protection) for the vehicle occupants and thus also reduces the need for air conditioning.
The dark grey glass has a light transmission factor of 8% and a solar factor of 32%. Available in thicknesses of 3.85 and 4.85 mm, it extends the range of green and grey glass AGC already offers automakers. The supplier said the expansion of its tinted glass range was combined with "advanced glass solutions for energy control" such as coated glass and variable transmission glass.
"Together these developments demonstrate our determination to constantly progress with our automotive customers in their search for added value," said general manager Jean-Marc Meunier.
Based in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, AGC Automotive Europe is part of AGC Glass Europe, which in turn is the European branch of AGC Group. The AGC Group, with Tokyo-based Asahi Glass at its core, is a global supplier of flat, automotive and display glass, chemicals and other high-tech materials and components.
AGC Automotive Europe specialises in production of windows (OEM and replacement) for vehicle manufacturers and also provides ready-to-assemble systems (fixation devices) and higher value added functional systems (antennas, sensors, heating elements) to the auto sector plus glazing (improved thermal, sound and vision comfort) for buildings.
