The new Toyota Auris, which replaces the Corolla from 1 February, has been awarded a best possible five-star crash safety rating from Euro NCAP.

The strong body structure, which allows minimal cabin intrusion, and the fitment of up to nine airbags add up to outstanding passenger safety, Toyota said, claiming that the the combination of a driver knee airbag and a collapsible steering column, in particular, led to the 35 point, five-star result for adult occupant protection.
Standard Isofix anchorage points on the outer rear seats helped gain a four-star rating for child occupant protection and the new car also scored a class-leading three out of four-star rating for pedestrian protection, “top” results in the side impact and pole impact tests, and an overall 94% score in the frontal impact test.
The Euro NCAP results show that the Auris scored 35 points for passenger protection (maximum: 37 points), 37 points for child protection (max: 48 points) and 21 points for pedestrian protection (max. 27).
