Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has stopped vehicle manufacturing at its Betim factory in Brazil from 1 to 6 April due to high stock levels and lower demand for cars.
Paid leave will be given to around 16,000 employees, Reuters reported.
Union president João Alves de Almeida said: “This isn’t good news – it creates a climate of apprehension for workers who are concerned about their future and maintaining their jobs.”
According to Almeida the plant is building around 2,000 units a day, down from 3,400 few years ago. The company has enough stock for 40 sales days.
The company had previously announced paid leave from 3 to 5 April for the Easter holiday.
