Chinese electric vehicle maker BYD has reportedly signed an agreement with Huawei to use its advanced autonomous driving system in its off-road Fangchengbao (premium bramd) EVs.
The Bao 8 SUV, sold under the Fangchengbao lineup, will be the first BYD model to use Huawei’s Qiankun intelligent driving system when it goes on sale later this year, reports in China say.
BYD’s partnership with Huawei reflects the growing presence of the Chinese tech company in the EV sector as a major supplier of ADAS tech.
Audi will also use Huawei’s ADAS in its EVs for the China market, according to Reuters.
BYD is emerging as a key player in China’s burgeoning EV market, but there is pressure to develop more ADAS features on its models, particularly as Tesla is ramping up its efforts in that area and planning a new vehicle with a high degree of driverless operation.
