BYD recently began operations at its third plant in Brazil, which it claims it the country's first lithium iron phosphate battery factory.
It's in the Manaus Industrial Zone (PIM) in the northern state of Amazonas. The batteries are installed on electric bus chassis.
The factory cost BRL15m (US$2.7m) and covers 5,000 square metres. Expansion is possible when needed.
The plant has capacity for 18,000 battery modules per year, and it was expected to deliver 1,000 in its first month.
"With our investment, we will also be able to [supply] companies interested in enhancing the electrification of their equipment," said Tyler Li, country manager for BYD Brazil.
The factory is automated and robotic.
