Chery Automobile has developed a new platform, the E0X, which it said would be used to build 24 hybrid and 15 high-end battery electric vehicle (BEV) models across its Exeed, Jetour and iCAR brands in the next two years.
Chery said the new platform would be available with its third generation PHEV (plug in hybrid electric vehicle) technology offering high energy, efficiency and reliability.
President Yin Tongyue, speaking at the Chery 2023 Tech Day event at company headquarters in Wuhan earlier this month, said the automaker planned to invest CNY100bn (US$14bn) in research and development over the next five years with a commitment to continuous learning from companies such as Apple, Huawei and CATL and a determination to pursue “disruptive innovation”.
Yin said: “Chery was an early mover in the new energy vehicle sector but fell behind. We are determined to secure a top position in China’s NEV market by next year.”
The company sold 1.25m vehicles in the first nine months of 2023, up 40% year on year.
The company launched its Yaoguang 2025 technology strategy in September 2022 which aims to advance 19 core future automotive technologies including platform architecture, chips, high efficiency hybrid engines, hydrogen technology, new batteries, autonomous driving and an intelligent cloud platform.
