August sales by Nissan Motor and its Chinese joint venture partner, Dongfeng Motor, slid just 0.7% year on year to about 85,500 vehicles.

That followed a 12.3% drop in July and a 11.1% rise in June. The company said in a statement cited by Reuters the decline in August was due to sluggish sales of light commercial vehicles.

The company’s sales in the first eight months of the year rose 9.4% to about 785,400 vehicles.

Nissan aims to boost its 2014 China sales 10.6% to 1.4m cars.

Senior vice president Jun Seki said in May that the company aims to achieve annual China sales of 2m cars by 2017-2018 as it bolsters its business in the world’s largest car market, Reuters noted.
