Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) boosted sales in the first nine month of this year 37% to 2.6m cars.

It sold 1.6m passenger cars and 1.03m commercial vehicles, up 47.9% and 22.5% respectively.

Shanghai Volkswagen Automotive sales were up almost 40% to 716,000 cars, almost eclipsing the 2009 full year total while September sales rose 36% to 95,800 units.

Shanghai General Motors’ nine-month tally was up 54.6% to 742,000 cars, ahead of the 727,000 sold last full year. Buick, Chevrolet and Cadillac topped 100,000 units, a monthly record.

SAIC Motor sales rose 83.2% to 120,000 independent branded models in the nine months while September sales reached 14,000 units.
