Citroen has added Active Safety Brake to its top C3 Aircross Flair models from January 2018 production.

The system, with Forward Collision Warning, results in revised insurance group but just for the most expensive Flair versions, for which it was previously an extra cost option. It remains so for the lower trim levels.

Active Safety Brake reduces the risk of collision by braking in place of the driver. The multi-purpose camera at the top of the windscreen detects obstacles, such as a stationary vehicle or a car moving in the same direction at a slower speed. The system brakes automatically when a risk of collision is detected, from 3mph to 52mph.

Citroen said the model line has 12 driver assistance and safety systems, plus four connectivity technologies as standard or optional.

Thatcham Research last week suggested UK car buyers choose only cars which have Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) as standard or at least specify it as an option – this is the case with this Citroen.
