Geely-owned Volvo Cars has unveiled the all-new ES90 electric sedan that it says blends the elements of a fastback and an SUV with advanced features.

The ES90 sedan, which expands the company’s premium cars product portfolio, features Volvo Cars’ 800V technology, enabling longer range and faster charging capabilities.

The new electric sedan is powered by next-generation core computers that deliver an eightfold improvement compared to the previous models.

This innovation is part of Volvo’s commitment to full electrification, with the ES90 joining a growing lineup of electric models that includes the EX90, EM90, EX40, EC40, and EX30.

Volvo Cars CEO Jim Rowan said: “The Volvo ES90 combines our most advanced technologies with Scandinavian design and superior comfort, creating a true premium Volvo car designed to elevate your quality of life.

“It joins the EX90 SUV as one of our flagship models and cements our position as an industry leader in software-defined cars that harness the power of core computing.”

The company claims that the ES90 can add 300km range in only ten minutes at 350 kW fast charging stations and offers a driving range of up to 700km under the WLTP testing cycle.

Volvo has integrated its signature Thor’s Hammer headlight design into the ES90, while the rear features C-shaped LED lamps.

Customers have option to personalise their vehicle with seven exterior colours and four wheel options ranging from 20 to 22 inches.

The ES90 also offers a Bowers & Wilkins sound system with 25 high-fidelity speakers, including Dolby Atmos technology, and a special mode that emulates the acoustics of Abbey Road Studios.

In a press statement, Volvo said: “Exclusive to the Bowers & Wilkins system is a special mode replicating the sounds of London’s legendary Abbey Road Studios.”

The ES90’s infotainment system, with Google built-in, offers services like Google Maps and Google Assistant, accessible through a 9-inch driver display and head-up display.

Powered by Qualcomm Technologies’ Snapdragon Cockpit Platform, the system is 5G-capable.

Built on the SPA2 architecture, the ES90 also features an advanced safety system powered by an array of sensors, including radars, cameras, ultrasonic sensors, and Luminar Technologies’ Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR).

The Volvo ES90 is now available for order in several European markets including Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Norway, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK.

The company plans to add additional markets later this year and into 2026.

Volvo Cars recently reported a marginal increase in global sales for February 2025, with 50,662 cars sold, marking a 1% rise year-on-year.
