General Motors of Brazil has announced a 50% increase in exports in 2000 to $US720 million, writes Rogério Louro Alves.
The company exported 117,309 vehicles during the year to Latin America, Asia and Africa.
GM expects more growth this year to $US900 million with the conquest of new markets and expansion of Chinese exports.
The Brazilian GM outpost sends China assembly kits for the unique South American-developed sedan version of the old-model European Corsa, the S10 pick-up and the Blazer SUV.
The strong export performance helped GM to sales of $US4.5 billion in Brazil in 2000.
The automaker estimates sales of $US5 billion this year.
