After firing 200 workers at the beginning of the month General Motors do Brasil is to axe 300 more, writes Rogerio Louro.
The latest sackings are staff from the São José dos Campos plant, São Paulo state which employs 8,500.
The first group of employees dismissed worked at the engineering centre in the São Caetano do Sul plant, also in São Paulo state.
GM has launched a voluntary redundancy programme open to all 8,300 workers at that plant but will not say how many workers it wants to cut.
GM says the dismissals are to adjust vehicle production to the current low demand in Brazil.
