The Ford Fiesta will have one last hurrah in North America before it drives off into the sunset. Production will begin in September for a new, limited-production series for the 2019 model year called the Fiesta ST Line.

“As the company begins to shift its focus from small cars to larger silhouettes, we were looking for a way to celebrate Fiesta and give our loyal customers something new for their last purchase,” said Ford Small Car marketing manager Jeff Eggen.

According to Eggen, the Fiesta ST Line looks like the Fiesta ST performance vehicle but it doesn’t pack the same punch under the hood.

“The Fiesta ST Line was created for customers who want the sportier look of the Fiesta ST but don’t necessarily need the power or extra cost that comes with that vehicle,” he said.

In addition to a front sport fascia with honeycomb grille, a shadow black painted roof and ST-line badging, the bold exterior of the Fiesta ST Line will include:

  • Shadow black skullcaps
  • Rear sport fascia and unique diffuser
  • Unique 16-inch black alloy wheels
  • Body-colour side rocker mouldings
  • Dual chrome exhaust tips
  • Shadow black painted large spoiler

“Because the Fiesta ST Line is a series and not a package, all of the content is standard and pricing will start at US$18,500,” said Eggen.

The Fiesta ST Line will come standard with a 5-speed manual transmission, however, an automatic transmission will be available as an option.

The ST Line concept already exists in Europe. Eggen said he’s proud that the Fiesta will be the first vehicle to bring it to the US market.

“We developed the vehicle to be everything the customer would want in their dream vehicle, without the extra added cost,” he said. “Fiesta is now leading the way for future products to bring ST Line to their lineup as well.”

Ford said earlier this year that by 2020, almost 90 percent of the Ford portfolio in North America will be trucks, utilities and commercial vehicles. Given declining consumer demand and product profitability, the company will not invest in next generations of traditional Ford sedans for North America, it said.

Over the next few years, the Ford car portfolio in North America will transition to just two vehicles – the Mustang and the Focus Active crossover coming out next year. The company is also exploring new “white space” vehicle silhouettes that ‘combine the best attributes of cars and utilities, such as higher ride height, space and versatility’.
