PSA Peugeot Citroen’s diesel-electric hybrid SUV looks set for a launch in the first quarter of 2011, according to a report today.
In April, PSA Peugeot Citroën said its Mulhouse and Sochaux plants had launched pilot projects to process engineer the new ‘HYbrid4 hybrid diesel 4WD’ technology.
PSA said in April the prototype vehicle rolled off the production line in record time after applying ‘highly innovative quality and lean manufacturing methods’. The two plants have put together in-house teams to engineer the processes and facilities for HYbrid4 technology.
A Peugeot spokesman told Dow JOnes the brand would be first to put the new hybrid on sale, followed a few months later by PSA sibling Citroen.
The SUV would have diesel-powered front-wheel drive and rear wheels propelled by an electric motor, the report said. The spokesman refused to comment on reports the company would try to sell the vehicle at EUR35,000.
