Opel plans to cut 2013 production by over 10%, according to German magazine Spiegel.

This would mean production of 845,000 cars, down from the 1.19m produced by Opel, plus Vauxhall in the UK, in 2011, the last full year for which parent General Motors provides figures.

The report did not quote any sources. An Opel spokesman declined to comment to Reuters on 2013 production plans said Opel/Vauxhall wanted to maintain European market share, which was 6.8% in the first 11 months of 2012 according to ACEA, the European car makers’ association.

Forecasts this week suggest that the European market will fall by around 3.2% in 2013; it was down an estimated 6.2% in 2012.
