Volkswagen today began accepting advance orders for its ‘sixth generation’ Golf Estate [aka Jetta wagon] today (22 May) though the revamp is largely a new nose for the previous body shell which was all-new last time around and new tail lights and rear bumper.
The base price of EUR18,500 in Germany includes ESP, six airbags, daytime running lights, roof railing, power windows all around, upshift indicator, power and heated outside mirrors, 1/3 to 2/3 split folding rear bench seat and seatback, central locking with remote control and climate control.
Inside, the car gets the new instrument pack, climate control and audio system of the latest Golf hatchback.
Launch engines will include a 90kW/122PS TSI (turbocharged petrol direct-injection)and 77kW/105PS and 103kW/140PS common rail turbo-diesels. Three more engines are to come – all six meet the new Euro 5 emissions standard.
At the rear, the independent design of the previous model has been upgraded in the new generation by modified, more elegant taillights and bumpers fully painted in car colour in the lower area. From now on, TDI and TSI versions can also be recognized by their tailpipes, which are no longer covered by the bumper. In addition, Volkswagen developed a new wheel lineup for the new Golf Estate.
