Volkswagen is not planning to develop a new model to replace its Eos convertible because the niche is too small, German publication Der Spiegel reported.
The newspaper, which did not cite its sources, said the cost of development and production made a replacement model difficult to justify especially since VW already has the widest range of convertibles globally and the Eos segment is in decline.
The Eos was launched in 2006 as a standalone model based on the Mk V Golf. It is made at the AutoEuropa plant in Portugal. A facelifted model appeared in 2010. Only 8,000 were built in 2013.
