Carlos Ghosn could step down early from his post as head of Renault, according to an interview with the Financial Times.
The newspaper said he is 'likely' to step down before his term ends in 2022. The report added that the 64-year-old will remain the company's chairman as well as head of the alliance comprising Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors Corp.

"You can suspect before 2022 I will stop being CEO of Renault," Ghosn told the FT.
Ghosn has led efforts at the Alliance to consolidate engineering platforms and major components across the constituent companies as well as lever economies of scale from combined procurements of supplier parts.
Earlier this week, the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance reported a 14% increase in annual synergies to EUR5.7bn in 2017, up from EUR5bn in 2016. The Alliance said it benefited from growing cost savings, incremental revenues and cost avoidance.
Ghosn is effectively in charge of the three constituent companies as well as director for the strategic direction of the Alliance. Ghosn has hinted before that he could relinquish some of his responsibilities.
