South Korea’s largest automotive components manufacturer, Hyundai Mobis, revealed in its 2024 Sustainability Report this week it had obtained 3,000 patents related to future mobility over the last three years.

The Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) affiliate has published the report, which covers environmental, social and governance (ESG) achievements, annually since 2010. The company pointed out that that most of the patents it filed in the last three years were in automotive technology areas such as powertrain electrification, autonomous driving and connectivity, 950 relating to battery temperature control technology alone.

Hyundai Mobis generated around 90% of its almost US$45bn global revenues last year from HMG which comprises Hyundai Motor and Kia Corporation. It produces a wide range of automotive body and chassis parts including BEV powertrains, battery pack assemblies, braking systems, rear and front wheel chassis modules, autonomous driving, connected systems, instrument panels and cockpit and front end modules.

The company wants to grow its sales outside HMG. Earlier this year, it began construction of an EV battery pack assembly plant in Spain to supply the Volkswagen group.
