Tata plans to deliver its delayed low-cost Nano car in dealer showrooms by end-February, according to reports in India. The car was originally planned for release in India in October 2008, but that timetable was blow off course by disruption at the lead plant.

India-based website Mint said that it was not immediately clear whether sales of the car or bookings would begin immediately and how many dealerships would receive the car.
“Both the base model and a fully-loaded, deluxe model will be displayed at showrooms towards the end of the next month,” a source told Mint.
The report said that time pressures had forced the company to manufacture engines for the Nano at a pilot plant that is being set up in the engineering research centre at its Pune facility. The plant will also manufacture gear boxes.
The original engine plant, which had been planned for Singur in West Bengal, is being shifted to Pune but that will take time and a new line has been temporarily created at the centre, the report said.
In September, Tata Motors withdrew from Singur after protests by local people over land compensation payments.
