Fiat said on Monday that its market share of new car sales in Italy in February fell to 27.5% from 31.2% in January due to disruption at a plant caused by flooding, Reuters reported.
According to the news agency, Fiat had previously said it expected its market share to fall by about three or four points due to a flood earlier this year at one of its engine factories in the Adriatic town of Termoli.
The flood has cut car production by about 40,000 units and a source told Reuters last Tuesday that Fiat’s market share would be squeezed in February and March.
The flood caused by heavy rains affected a shop floor where the “Fire” engine — which powers Fiat’s best-selling Punto, Panda and Stilo models as well as the Lancia Y — is made, Reuters added.
