Honda Motor plans to double the number of car models it sells in mainland China over the next two years with the aim of expanding market share, according to local sources in Japan.

The company plans to have 20 models on the Chinese mainland market by 2016, helped by generating greater manufacturing cooperation between its two main joint ventures in the country – Dongfeng Honda Automobile and Guangqi Honda Automobile.

The Japanese automaker intends to increase the use of common platforms and other major parts between its two main vehicle assembly operations in China and will also increase local content to help reduce costs.
