Subaru maker Fuji Heavy Industries plans to offer four wheel drive transmission systems for the next-generation Opel Zafira, produced at a General Motors plant in Thailand.

Fuji sells an ‘OEM’ version of the current model as the Subaru Traviq in Japan but has been criticised for not offering a 4WD variant like other Subaru model ranges such as the Impreza, Legacy and Forester.

Fuji expects the next Zafira to go on sale in 2006 and is assigning its own 4WD development staff to GM to jointly develop the new drivetrains.
