Suzuki, Mazda and Nissan will recall a combined 359,589 Suzuki-built minivehicles in Japan to fix faulty transmissions, a recall report issued to the government showed on Thursday.

Reuters said the affected cars are the Suzuki Alto, Mazda Carol, Nissan Moco and other minicars, all built by Suzuki – under an original equipment manufacturer deal for the Mazda and Nissan models – between November 2000 and June 2002.

There was no report of any accident resulting from the defect, which in the worst case scenario could cause the bearing in one of the gear shafts to break, resulting in the sudden deceleration of the vehicle, the report said.

A Suzuki spokesman told Reuters the company does not disclose estimated recall costs.

The 660cc vehicles are sold only in Japan, the report added.
