German automotive parts supplier Mahle has unveiled plans to streamline its organisational structure. It says the organisational changes will enhance efficiency and accelerate its strategic vision under its ‘Mahle 2030+’ strategy.

This restructuring initiative includes the merger of several business units and the complete integration of its thermal management division.

Effective 1 January 2025, Mahle will consolidate its existing five business units into three.

The restructuring will see four existing business units merged into two new ones, following industrial logic to pool areas with related production technology.

Mahle CEO Arnd Franz said: “The reorganisation of our business units will not only significantly accelerate internal cooperation. It will also offer new prospects for locations closely connected with the internal combustion engine and peripheral components.

“They will be able to contribute their industrial know-how to these future-oriented areas.”

The “Engine Systems and Components” and “Electronics and Mechatronics” units will now operate as “Powertrain and Charging”.

The “Filtration and Engine Peripherals” and “Thermal Management” units will be combined into the new “Thermal and Fluid Systems” unit.

As part of this realignment, Mahle will fully acquire the remaining 25% minority stake in Mahle Behr GmbH & Co. KG to bolster its position in the thermal management space.

Mahle began acquiring shares in the thermal management specialist in 2010, gradually increasing its stake to over 75%.

Franz said: “Following several major acquisitions in the thermal management field, this step will successfully complete the integration of this business in the Mahle Group.”

The company will also maintain its “Aftermarket” business unit, which will be rebranded as “Lifecycle and Mobility,” to capitalise on growth opportunities in electrification and digitalisation.

In line with its new structure, Mahle will also downsize its Group Management Board, reducing the number of members from seven to four from 1 January 2025.

Arnd Franz will continue as CEO and assume the role of Labor Director, as Human Resources is no longer a separate function.

Markus Kapaun will remain CFO, while Jumana Al-Sibai and Georg Dietz will oversee “Thermal and Fluid Systems” and “Powertrain and Charging,” respectively.

Martin Wellhoeffer will become COO of “Thermal and Fluid Systems,” while Dr. Beate Bungartz and Martin Weidlich departed on November 29, 2024.
