Mazda’s Malaysian distributor Berjaya Auto has acquired a 20% stake in local vehicle assembler Inokom Corporation, which assembles Mazdas and other vehicles.

The company said that by acquiring a stake in Inokom it will be able to strengthen its operations in Malaysia by having more control over the supply of locally-assembled vehicles to its dealers.

Inokom’s plant in Kulim, Kedah, currently assembles the Mazda 3 and CX5 models. Berjaya plans to assemble the redesigned 2 next year.
