Japanese automaker Mitsubishi Motors Corporation reported a 12.3% fall in global production to 73,747 units in March 2025, from 84,062 units in the same month last year, due mainly to a 24.5% decline in overseas production to 32,651 units. Output in Japan increased just slightly to 41,096 units, despite an almost 22% drop in exports to 41,061 units.

Production in Asia outside Japan fell by almost 26% year-on-year to 30,984 vehicles last month, with Thai output plunging by 52% to 12,715 units while in Indonesia volumes almost doubled to 12,702 units. The automaker began deliveries of its Thai-made XForce hybrid SUV to local customers in April, its second HEV model to be sold in the country after the Xpander HEV model went on sale in early 2024.

In the last financial year (FY2024), from April 2024 to March 2025, Mitsubishi’s global production fell by 10% to 909,743 units from 1,010,753 in the previous year, with output in Japan dropping by 4.2% to 478,365 units, while overseas volumes fell by 15.6% to 431,378 units. Exports from Japan fell by 1.7% to 237,428 units.

In the first quarter of 2025 the company produced 227,753 vehicles globally, down by 13.3% compared with 262,718 units a year earlier, with domestic output falling by 2.5% to 126,341 units, while overseas production fell by almost 24% to 101,412 units. Exports increased by 5.4% to 57,998 units in this period.
