Honda has topped a JD Power customer satisfaction survey of new vehicle owners in New Zealand while Mercedes-Benz was rated best by used car purchasers.


The brand scored 799 of 1,000 possible points and was followed by Volkswagen, Mazda, Suzuki and Toyota.


Overall satisfaction among new vehicle owners in the market – where used vehicle imports exceed those brought in new – has increased to 769 points in 2009 -up eight from 2007.


Overall quality improved to 156 problems per 100 vehicles in 2009, down from 170 in 2007. Problems


Mercedes-Benz ranked highest in ownership satisfaction among buyers of used vehicles, followed by BMW, Toyota, Audi and Honda.


Overall satisfaction among used vehicle owners increased to 730 points in 2009 – up from 712 in 2007.
