Plastic Omnium has started construction of two new plants in the US.
The site at Greer in South Carolina will supply all large, exterior, painted body parts for the BMW X3, X4, X5, X6 and future models at the automaker’s plant adjacent to the supplier.
The factory will also supply Volvo in South Carolina and Daimler in Alabama.
Plastic Omnium will equally produce fuel systems for an unnamed Japanese carmaker in its new Tennessee plant,with both sites planned to start operations in mid-2018.
The supplier will have invested US$300m in the construction of four new plants in the US during a three-year period, employing nearly 1,000 people.
Data from just-auto’s QUBE service shows Plastic Omnium’s Automotive Division recorded 2016 revenue up 17.3% to EUR6.6bn.

Business was particularly strong in 2016 in the UK (up by 28.5%) thanks in particular to the commissioning of the Warrington-Liverpool plant for exterior parts for Jaguar Land-Rover in June last year.
